Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.

Nav's Quote Of The Year

"Our children ... deserve an education worthy of this great nation. Together we will make sure that every child learns and no child is left behind."

President George W. Bush

Secondary Audience

This project idea of an 'all in one educational device' needs to appeal as a valuable educational tool for adults to invest in. The secondary audience are the adults, who will be the parents of the children in the age range of 11 years and under. These are responsible people who wish to ensure that the product provides positive experiences and is safe for their child. If the adults, who are child’s keeper find the new technological tool interesting they will select it for their child’s use. They will want their child to have fun, while also be successful in developing the much needed learning skills that will help them to move successfully into adulthood. This is a learning curve for children as they move towards adulthood, and every parent wants their child to be equipped with all the necessary skills. However, they still want their child to have fun, enjoyment and excitement from play activities provided by such interactive devices helping their child through physical and mental development, in addition learning to be creative. The parents will be interested in providing the child with fun learning experiences, which also entertains them. In their opinion cost is no object, as parents they want the best device for their child’s development and giving their child the afforded opportunity to learn through fun activities.

Target Audience

In our group meeting we decided that our target audience will be children at the age of 11 and under. The children of this age group will be the primary users of the product we will initiate. They may be in reception, pre-school, primary school, secondary school or home environment. At this stage they are learning the basics such as learning to recognise numbers, letters, and objects and sequence them. Children will expect the games to be entertaining and to provide a variety of experiences or activities.

However, in order to reach the children of those ages with such a product. The product must appeal to our secondary target audience, the parents who serve as the buyers of the products and they are the ones who act as the gatekeepers for young children’s learning experiences.

Problem Definition

Children are not always successfully taught at school in the core subjects and tend fall behind their peers. Not knowing the basics of English and Mathematics affects individuals throughout their lives and therefore they should be taught correctly at a young age.

From our brainstorming and lengthy team meeting we established the idea for our HCI project.

This proposal will aid the removal of the existence of those individuals who are incorrectly taught at school and allow more young children to have success in their lives by going to universities and gaining good jobs in the future.

Weekly Report

Team Meeting
Today we met in the project lab, where all team members were present.

The following issues were covered:

  • Decided to focus our project on children at the age of 11 and under
  • Brainstormed ideas for project
  • Established a project idea of an 'all in one educational device'. This device would help educate our target audience in the areas of numeracy and literature. In terms of numeracy the children will be taught how to carry out basic additions and subtractions through examples and then tests will be set to calculate there knowledge and understanding. In terms of literature the device will aid the user in spelling and developing basic sentences

Work to be carried out before next meeting:

  • Each member to establish the persona of the target audience
  • Document the justification of chosen product over other product ideas that where discussed
  • To think of questions that we may ask our target audiance which will aid the design of our product

Issues to cover in the next meeting 7 February 2007

  • Establishing a questionnaire, to gather information from the target audiance

Brainstorming

This is the brainstorming, which was carried out, in our last meeting (31/1/07) to determine the concept for our product.
